Once there was a little girl named Jaydah who liked dressing up like a princess. She also loved spending time with her grandmother, Tata.
One day while playing dress up with her friends Zoey and Marissa, Jaydah found a long, black wig in her grandmother’s closet. She put the wig on and looked at herself in the mirror. She looked so pretty.
"I hate my hair!" exclaimed Princess Onyx.
"You have such beautiful hair," reassured Ruby, her Lady-in-Waiting, brushing the Princess’ hair into a ponytail.
"You're only saying that because I'm the princess,” Princess Onyx responded. “I like your hair. It's long and straight."

Clarissa Burton has been crafting poetry and short stories since the age of eight. Her work has appeared in the Charleston Post-Courier, The Kansas City Star, Flourish Magazine, and Kansas City Small Business Monthly. publishes essays and commentaries across several online platforms and is the founder of the Queen of the Pen Books® website. She lives in the Midwest with her husband, their two dogs, and their two cats.
