Sadly, I understand that question all too well.

My doctoral dissertation examined why adult learners attending two-year community colleges often spend years in remedial reading and writing before they can even begin college-level coursework. That research confirmed what many educators have known for years—we are waiting far too long to develop strong readers and writers.

Instead of simply identifying the problem, I wanted to be part of the solution.
